A Strawberry Tea Party – What a Summer Treat!
The Bring Joy Foundation had a lovely trip over the hills and across the countryside to visit one of our latest senior groups to benefit from a grant, The Matlock Hard of Hearing Group. Each month the group meet at the Imperial Rooms in Matlock to meet their friends and organise their trips out together. The group is well attended and around 30 came along for the strawberry afternoon tea – what a treat!
I was greeted by Jill, the groups treasurer who applied for the grant and were given a warm welcome by the group. Cups of tea were soon flowing alongside yummy strawberries and scones and it was a great opportunity to speak to those that will benefit from our special grant. I met Winnie, aged 93 who is profoundly deaf and relies on the speak to text screen to keep up with the groups discussions and news. Winnie loves meeting with her friends at the group and has been attending the group regularly for many years. Many of the group I spoke to enjoy the social meet ups with each other without feeling disadvantaged by their hearing impairments. After the cups of tea the group held their raffle assisted by volunteer and retiree Roland. Many of the members brought in donations and prizes – there were lots of homemade jam, tasty biscuits and books up for grabs for the winning ticket holders. They are looking forward to their upcoming trip to Llandudno later this month which The Bring Joy helped to fund. Here’s hoping for a sunny day for the group to enjoy their day out to the seaside!
